Today’s show will explore one of the most recognizable Scripture texts in all of the Bible. It is hung on hospital walls, quoted at the bedside of the sick and dying, and recited at gravesides. Practically everyone is familiar with some part of Psalm 23. But the question that ‘Matt and Mom’ discuss today is:  Do we know this Psalm by memory or do we know the Shepherd through intimacy?    This is part one of a three- part series, which will explore the role and duties of a Shepherd and how that fits in our modern day age thinking. The sheep comparison is a wake-up call to our propensity as humans to be afraid easily, and in need of constant direction, guidance and protection. This show will reframe your understanding of our relationship with the Good Shepherd. 

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could get through life without any interruption of pain--from loss, sickness, heartache, disappointment, or tragedy? Yes, surely that is wishful thinking because unfortunately--by nature of living in this fallen world--bad things will inevitably happen to everyone, whether it is known in public or it is hidden in private. In today’s episode, Matt and Mom explore the question whether there can be blessing in brokenness. They discuss the reality of how Jesus is the ultimate lifeguard in times of trouble and that it is He alone who will rescue us from drowning in any sea of sorrow sent our way.

Today's mantra is "whatever feels good to you, just do it."  There is no right or wrong.  Moral relativism rules the day.  Our answer is not in politics or social activism, but rather is in men and women whose lives are changed by the power of a living God.  How do you suppose 12 men, 7 of them lowly fishermen became known as, "the men who turned the world upside down."  Where are the men and women today who believe that?  Do you want to see societal change?  Then perhaps we need a society of people who have undergone spiritual heart transplants.  Hearts that listen and obey the word of God.  Tune in and be encouraged that 'for such a time as this,' in 2013, there are people who God has placed to "turn this world upside down."  It can be done and you can be a part of it.

In the early hours of March 7th, 2009, Matt Maher made a fatal decision to drive while under the influence of alcohol.  Matt struck the vehicle of 55 year old Hort Kap.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  This poor decision would upend the lives of so many people.  With the fourth year anniversary coming up, tune in and hear how Matt has dealt with this tragic event on a daily basis.  You won't want to miss this compelling episode of "That Guy's Mom"  with Matt from prison as he attempts to articulate what was going through his mind when he heard the sickening words, "The driver of the other vehicle is deceased."  Our show's mission has always been to encourage and provide hope regardless of where people find themselves in their life--through the good, the bad, and the ugly.  We hope this interview  will give you hope in the midst of your storm, as you hear what sustained Matt through the years and how God continues to keep him at peace.
